Maple Bank Farm Today

We are a community-oriented local vegetable and fruit farm that has been operating in Roxbury since 1730.
Local, Fresh Food

Maple Bank Farm has lived on to provide quality, fresh products while providing a destination that exemplifies what a farm stand can mean to a small town.

Maple Bank is now cared for by Kirby Peters who runs the farm and the stand's day to day operations. The farm is staffed by a small team of dedicated employees who love everything related to farming, agriculture, and fresh local food.

Something extremely important to us is providing transparency in every step of the food production process. From cultivation & growing, to picking & washing, we are passionate about giving the community a window into the local food system.

The vision for the future of our farm is to continue to provide the community with a marketplace where they can buy fresh produce, locally produced items, and seasonal specialty items.

Our History

Our farm's rich history and place in the community has helped make it a cornerstone of Roxbury since 1730.

Farm House.png

In 1730, the land for Maple Bank Farm was granted to the Hurlbut family by King George II.

Maple Bank Farm started as a subsistence farm raising livestock for the family and

eventually grew into a business

selling produce & eggs to its neighbors

in Roxbury and beyond.

We love what we do and it shows.

It takes a team of dedicated and hard working individuals to farm and produce the wide variety of vegetable, fruits and potted plants that we are able to provide.

Our warm and welcoming staff are enthusiastic about farming, gardening and share the vision of producing and sharing fresh food with their neighbors and local community.

Our team works together to plant, weed, irrigate, and harvest a full spectrum of produce and plants on the farm's 55 acres.

  • Do you produce everything you sell?
We grow a wide variety of produce but we will bring in produce from local farms in CT and NY if we don’t produce it. When you are in the stand, if you see “our own” on a price sign you know we grew it on our farm!
  • Are your products organic?
No, we are not certified organic. We are proud that we do not spray the vast majority of our crops with anything (organic or conventional chemicals). Over the past few years, we have increased our use of compost and natural fertilizers to nourish our crops. Additionally, we have significantly expanded the land dedicated to cover crops, which helps improve soil health and reduce pest pressure naturally. One of the biggest benefits of buying from a local farmer is knowing exactly how your food was grown. Unlike grocery store produce, which often comes with little information about farming practices, we can share the details of our process with you firsthand. There are a select few crops we spray in order to achieve marketable yields that meet consumer expectations. When we make the choice to spray a crop, we utilize a responsible approach called Integrated Pest Management (IPM). IPM combines multiple pest-control strategies, including biological controls, cultural practices, and targeted pesticide applications. By monitoring pest populations and considering factors like weather, plant health, and natural predators, we only intervene when absolutely necessary. This helps protect beneficial insects, improve soil health, and ensure sustainability. Crops that we spray: Apples, Blueberries, Potatoes, Pumpkins.
  • Are Cathy and Howie still involved with Maple Bank now?
Cathy and Howie are the previous farmers and farmed this land for more than 40 years. They still own the farm and lease it out to Kirby Peters who operates the farm. Cathy and Howie still live on the farm and continue to manage the orchard and the sheep.
  • Are your products available year round?
No, many products are seasonal or are produced in limited quantities, and some specialty items from our partners are only available based on their supply.
  • When are you open for Pick-Your-Own?
PYO Blueberries is open July - early August and PYO apples is open mid September - mid August. These are estimates so please check the website or call to confirm that we are open for picking.
  • Do you accept credit cards?
We accept all credit cards, apple pay, and cash app. However, credit card transactions end up costing us a significant expense so we ask that you pay in cash when possible.
  • Are dogs or pets allowed on the farm?
No, please leave all pets at home.
  • What time of the year is the farmstand open?
We are normally open from the end of April until December 23rd. We are open 10-5:30pm Tuesday-Sunday.

Enjoy Nature and What it Produces

“Well we like to take rides out in the country at this time of the year,” You know, it's just nature and it's beautiful and it’s outdoors. And we realize, you know, the efforts that people put into farming today.”
